Big Pharma HATES This Plant

An African root is showing the world what real healing can look like.

An Ancient Answer to a Modern Crisis

For centuries, deep within the forests of Central Africa, a bitter root has guided people through visions, fear, and profound healing.

It wasn’t made in a lab.

It wasn’t designed for profit.

But it might be the most powerful addiction interrupter the modern world has ever seen — and a major threat to industries built on lifelong treatments.

Because addiction doesn’t just steal health.

It hijacks identity.

It rewires the brain, numbs emotion, fractures relationships, and tells people they’ll never be whole again.

And most treatments?

They manage the symptoms. They rarely touch the core.

What if a plant — used for centuries in spiritual ceremonies in Central Africa — could help stop withdrawal in its tracks?

The plant is called iboga. Ibogaine is a naturally occurring compound extracted from its root bark — from the sacred Tabernanthe iboga shrub, used for centuries by the Bwiti people of Gabon, Cameroon, and the Congo in rites of healing, initiation, and spiritual connection.

Unlike traditional treatments, ibogaine does more than just erase symptoms — it appears to intervene at the root of addiction itself, helping many people feel reset after a single powerful experience.

And now, science is finally catching up to what indigenous wisdom keepers have known for generations.

What the Research Shows

Here’s the short version:

Ibogaine helps people detox from drugs like opioids and cocaine. Oftentimes… very fast.

Let’s look at what studies found:

🌿 A 1999 retrospective study surveyed 33 people who had taken ibogaine to stop opioid use.
➡️ Most said it stopped their withdrawal symptoms quickly — and many stayed clean for months afterward (if not permanently).

🌿 A 2018 study tracked 191 people after one ibogaine session.
➡️ Nearly everyone felt less pain, fewer cravings, and more control over their drug use.

🌿 Another 2018 study followed patients in New Zealand for a whole year.
➡️ Most either quit opioids or cut their use way down — and reported less depression, too.

🌿 A 2017 survey of 88 people found that one ibogaine session:
➡️ Helped 80% of them stop withdrawal immediately.
➡️ Helped 30% stay completely drug-free afterward.

🌿 And even in a carefully monitored hospital study from 2022:
➡️ People came off opioids safely, without needing extra medications.

The takeaway: Ibogaine works. Not just in theory — it delivers results in real life.

How It Works (Without the Jargon)

Ibogaine helps people in a way most substances never could. Here’s a simple breakdown:

🧠 It helps your brain reset after long-term drug use.
💥 It reduces cravings and pain during withdrawal.
🧘 It can help support clearer thinking and emotional balance.
🌱 It may help the brain grow new connections — what scientists call neuroplasticity.

In lab animals, ibogaine made rats stop choosing drugs — including opioids, cocaine, and alcohol.

In people, it seems to activate areas of the brain that support motivation, healing, and emotional stability.

So this doesn’t just mask symptoms.

It helps people rediscover their sense of self.

But — like many powerful tools — ibogaine comes with real considerations.

Because ibogaine can affect the heart — especially by prolonging the QT interval — it’s recommended that it always be taken under professionally trained medical supervision. Pre-existing heart conditions, electrolyte imbalances, or certain medications can increase the risk of serious cardiac events. Some people also experience ataxia (loss of coordination) or temporary dizziness during the experience.

That’s why the safest ibogaine treatments are done in licensed clinics or research settings — with full screening, support, and aftercare.

When used responsibly, ibogaine can be one of the most profound healing tools we have.

But like anything transformative — it’s all about the context.

Wait... This Crosses Party Lines?

At this point, psychedelics and UFOs might be the only topics getting love from both Republicans and Democrats.

Everything else? Gridlock.

But ibogaine and other psychedelic therapies? Even if it’s taking longer than we all would like, at least it’s getting more traction than your average infrastructure bill.

Hey — we’ll take the win.

🗳️ In Texas, State Rep. Cody Harris introduced House Bill 3717, seeking $50 million to fund ibogaine research for veterans.

🗳️ In Arizona, Rep. Justin Wilmeth sponsored HB2871, securing $5 million for ibogaine trials, with former Senator Kyrsten Sinema pledging to raise matching private funds.

🗳️ In Kentucky, state leaders proposed using $42 million in opioid settlement money for ibogaine studies. Former Governor Rick Perry (R) and former Attorney General Ben Chandler (D) stood together to support it. Note: this has unfortunately been put on hold.

🗳️ At the federal level, Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) introduced a bill supporting ibogaine and other psychedelic therapies for PTSD and brain injury — with bipartisan co-sponsors like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Jared Moskowitz on board.

When both sides agree, it usually means something important is happening (or there are major kickbacks involved 🙄).

Ibogaine is no longer a radical idea.

It’s a potential solution — and it’s gaining support across the board.

Want to Help Change the Conversation?

The Ohio State University just launched the first-ever global survey on ibogaine outcomes — and they need people who’ve been through it to speak up.

Led by Dr. Alan K. Davis at the Center for Psychedelic Drug Research and Education, this is the most ambitious effort to date to gather data from those who’ve used ibogaine for addiction, PTSD, TBI, or other life challenges.

The survey is:

✔️ Anonymous
✔️ Open to anyone 18+
✔️ Focused on real-world experience
✔️ Built to help influence research, policy, and access

As Dr. Davis explains:

“This is a chance for real people to help science catch up with what’s already happening on the ground.”

If you’ve walked this path — or know someone who has — your story could help change how the world sees ibogaine.

A Final Word

Ibogaine may not be the path for every person.

But for thousands, it has meant renewal, healing, and a return to the life they were always meant to live.

It has opened doors that once felt permanently closed — offering a way back to wholeness when nothing else could.

The time for silence is over.

This is a moment to share real experiences, to lift up voices that have lived through transformation, and to create a future shaped by truth and healing.

What we need now are stories.
Stories that honor the strength it takes to heal.
Stories that show what’s possible when people are given real tools — and real hope.

So take the survey.
Send it to someone who knows the power of this journey firsthand.
Each story is a spark — and together, they can light the way forward.

This goes beyond one plant.
This is about reclaiming the future of recovery — a future rooted in possibility, dignity, and lasting change.

Let’s shape that future — together.
