The Future of Psychedelics: Man, Machine, and the Mind

The Revolution Has Already Begun

We like to think of many psychedelics as ancient wisdom - rooted in the earth, rituals passed down through generations, a journey guided by intuition and spirit.
But what happens when Artificial intelligence enters the picture?
AI is shaping industries overnight. Finance, medicine, art, design, even web searches. And now, it’s sliding into a space once thought to be purely human: altered states of consciousness.
But what does AI know about consciousness? We haven't even reached AGI (when AI could in theory learn and perform any intellectual task a human can).
Many would say merging AI and psychedelics is about refining the human experience. Enhancing it. Taking what’s been trial and error for thousands of years and turning it into a precise process.
The question of whether or not this should happen, at this point, is futile (because it is inevitable).
The better question is what happens next - and how do we prepare for it?

AI Is Creating Psychedelics
For centuries, psychedelic exploration has been a process of natural discovery - substances found in nature and consumed in ritual. Then, psychedelics entered the age of scientific discovery, substances created in the chemistry lab, by great minds like Anne and Alexander Shulgin or Albert Hoffman.
Now with AI, humans aren’t discovering natural substances anymore. We’re designing synthetic substances.
A recent Scientific American report revealed that AI software has identified thousands of potential psychedelic compounds - which have never existed before.
By analyzing vast datasets of known molecules and their effects, AI can predict how new compounds might interact with the brain before a single test is conducted.
AI is creating a path toward personalized experiences, tailored to an individual’s unique biology and needs, accounting for things like:
☑ Genetic Profiles – AI can analyze DNA markers to predict how someone might metabolize and respond to a given compound.
☑ Metabolic Rates – Individual differences in metabolism impact how long a substance lasts and how strong it feels; AI can fine-tune dosages accordingly.
☑ Brain Chemistry – Variations in serotonin receptors mean different people respond differently to the same psychedelic—AI could help create more precise, effective treatments for this different groups of people.
☑ Psychological History – Past experiences with psychedelics, mental health conditions, and therapeutic goals could all be factored into a custom-tailored experience.
☑ Real-Time Adjustments – In the future, biometric feedback (like heart rate and brainwave activity) could allow AI to adjust dosage and setting on the fly, optimizing the experience for safety and effectiveness on a case by case basis.
Now let this sink in: the next phase of psychedelic medicine is not just taking what nature gives us, or what man has created, but a far more precise, more intentional, and more personal altered state of consciousness. It involves AI powered tools, before, during, and after the psychedelic experience.
But are we trying to control too much? Some say a lot of their healing, joy, and self-revelation has come out of a plastic bag of mushrooms in a friend's back yard after a summer BBQ.
Is there value in simplicity? Might we reduce the efficacy by overcomplicating?
We’d love to hear your thoughts.

AI as a Psychedelic Guide
Psychedelic journeys are among the most profound experiences a person can have. They’re personal. Emotional. Sometimes overwhelming. And for centuries, people have relied on other people to help guide them through these moments. Shamans. Therapists. Trusted friends.
The presence of another human being - someone who has been ’there’, who understands what words to say (or when to say nothing at all) - can be the difference between a meaningful breakthrough or a disorienting experience.

The AI Psychedelic Tool Kit
☑ Precise Medical Pre-Screening - AI could analyze medical and psychiatric history, various biomarkers, and health stats to determine prior to a journey if there are any contraindications with a particular medicine perhaps in ways a brief chat or medical questionnaire cannot. There is a potential for immense harm-reduction, which bodes well for both the user and for the perception of psychedelic medicine as a whole.
☑ AI-Powered Guides – Imagine an AI system trained on thousands of hours observing human-guided psychedelic experiences capable of offering real-time advice based on common themes and responses.
☑ Set and Setting Optimization – AI could monitor heart rate, breath patterns, and facial expressions to adjust lighting, sound, and other environmental factors for a smoother experience.
☑ Post-Trip Integration Support – AI tools could analyze language patterns in trip reports and suggest personalized insights or journaling prompts.
These are all useful tools. But they are just that - tools.
Because here’s the truth: AI can analyze emotions, but as far as we know it will never feel them.
☑ It doesn’t know what it’s like to sit with someone as they wrestle with buried grief or shame.
☑ It doesn’t understand the unspoken reassurance of a steady hand or a familiar voice.
☑ It can simulate empathy, but it will never truly authentically relate to it.
Psychedelics don’t just shift perception; they open people up - sometimes in ways they didn’t expect, sometimes in ways they aren’t prepared for. When that happens, connection matters. A knowing glance. A warm embrace. A moment of shared silence.
Psychedelics are not just about what happens in the brain. They are about what happens between us.
AI may become an incredible support system. It may enhance what’s possible.
But in the moments that matter most, we will always need each other.

AI as a Tool, Not a Replacement
AI is going to change psychedelics - there’s no question about that.
👉 It’s designing new psychedelic compounds at an unprecedented speed.
👉 It’s making psychedelics safer, more precise, and more personalized.
👉 It’s optimizing how we integrate and apply psychedelic insights.
AI can create the tools. But the journey?
That still belongs to us.
The deepest transformations don’t happen in data sets or algorithms. They happen in the raw, unfiltered experience of being human.

So… Would You Do It?

From Our Friends at the Microdosing Collective
Hi guys, I hope you are all well! We are just landing from the historic coca summit in Peru, which was created by our incredible team to liberate the coca leaf (which is wrongly illegal because of its association with cocaine).
On February 25, I will be sharing what I have learnt in London, to spread the word about this movement. There will be a herbal bar, a DJ, and an exclusive interview with Dennis McKenna. I would love it if some of you can make it, or even if you can share this with friends in London who would be interested in this. We need to spread the word to as many people as possible. Find the ticket link here!
