3 Steps to Break Habits With Mushrooms
Change doesn’t start with effort. It starts with insight—and a brain ready to let go.

The Patterns That Trap Us

You know the loop.
It starts with a promise—“Tomorrow, I’ll do better.”
But the next day looks a lot like the last. The scroll. The cigarette. The comfort food. The avoidance.
We want to change.
But the mind isn’t just built for desire. It’s built for pattern.
And patterns—especially the ones we call habits—have deep roots.
Why is it so hard to break them?
Because your brain is efficient. It favors the familiar.
Even if the familiar is killing your progress.
But sometimes, that loop can be interrupted.
Sometimes, the brain becomes a little less rigid… and a little more open.
That window of openness?
That’s where psychedelics might help.

The Science Behind the Shift
When we talk about changing habits, we’re really talking about changing neural pathways. The grooves in the mind that determine your default behavior.
And some psychedelic compounds—like psilocybin and LSD—appear to support that change in three key ways:
✅ They increase neuroplasticity—your brain’s ability to reorganize itself.
✅ They raise BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor), which supports the growth of new neural connections.
✅ They encourage emotional processing and interruption of default patterns, allowing space for something new.
A 2023 review in Frontiers in Psychiatry highlighted how psilocybin-assisted therapy reduced alcohol use by helping participants explore the root of their drinking habits. The results lasted for weeks, even months, after just two guided sessions.
Another review in Cell Reports found that psychedelics stimulate both structural and functional plasticity in the brain—helping people shift behaviors, not just thoughts .
This research matches what many already know from personal experience:
That in the wake of a well-held journey, the world feels different.
Not because it changed—but because you did.

Step 1: Reflection Unlocks the Roots

Psychedelics don’t erase habits. They illuminate them.
They reveal the why.
Why you smoke after work.
Why you doomscroll until midnight.
Why you say yes when you mean no.
It’s not willpower you’re lacking.
It’s awareness.
And that awareness is often buried under layers of coping, conditioning, and unconscious emotion.
Psychedelics bring it to the surface.
Inside an altered state, a cigarette isn’t just a cigarette.
It becomes a question. A memory. A mirror.
You begin to ask:
Is this habit helping me survive?
Or is it keeping me from living?
And for many, that’s the first time the question even feels safe to ask.

Step 2: Change Becomes Possible—And Appealing

After the insight comes the invitation:
What are you going to do about it?
This is where the ego dissolves, and the identity you’ve clung to—the identity that holds the habit—can loosen its grip.
In that soft space, you see your behavior from the outside.
And maybe for the first time, you realize:
This thing I do? It’s not who I am.
That separation—between you and your patterns—is where real change begins.
Not from shame. Not from grit. But from a felt sense of possibility.
You could do it differently.
And suddenly, the idea of changing feels less like a punishment—and more like freedom.

Step 3: Integration Turns Insight Into Action

A revelation is powerful.
But a revelation without follow-through is just a story.
This is where integration matters.
📝 Journaling
🧘♀️ Meditation
🗣️ Talking to a therapist or guide
✍️ Writing down what came up, and how it felt
These aren’t side notes.
They’re the bridge between the trip… and the transformation.
By reinforcing your insights through intentional action, you begin to create new grooves. New habits. New reactions.
You rewire the cycle—one conscious choice at a time.
And just like the old habits were built brick by brick, so are the new ones.

Why It Matters
Behavior change is hard.
But it becomes easier when the brain is more flexible, the mind more self-aware, and the heart more open to the truth.
Psychedelics don’t do the work for you.
They reveal what’s in the way.
And with the right mindset, guidance, and integration… that can be the spark that finally sets change in motion.
🌀 They help you see clearly.
🔄 They give you space to choose again.
🔓 They unlock the door—but you still have to walk through.
This isn’t about hacking the brain.
It’s about listening to what it’s really asking for—and having the courage to answer.
